Before you head out to carry out your important banking activities in 2026, please read this blog.
In this blog, we have given an exhaustive list of RBI bank holidays state-wise for 2026.
These include national holidays, regional festivals and observances recognised by the RBI and individual states.
Please note that bank holidays in India can vary state-wise depending on local festivals, so a holiday in one state might not be observed in another. Before beginning the list, please understand the types of bank holidays briefly.
Types of Bank Holidays in India 2026
Banks in India observe holidays based on the Negotiable Instruments Act (1881) and RBI notifications. There are generally three types of bank holidays in India:
1. National (All-India) Holidays
These are observed by all banks across India:
Republic Day: 26 January
Independence Day: 15 August
Gandhi Jayanti: 2 October
These are gazetted bank holidays and apply nationwide.
2. Regional / State-Specific Holidays
Many festivals (for example - Holi, Eid, Diwali) are regional holidays and banks in specific states observe them according to local significance. These dates vary from state to state.
NBFCs, Payment Banks and Microfinance lenders may remain open even on bank holidays since they are not always bound by RBI holiday mandates for physical branch closure, but services like cheque clearing will be affected.
